Matching amount for fund drive donations expanded; now seeking tenants for renovated Main Street storefronts
For release: Friday, August 21, 2026
The Ellendale Opera House is expanding the matching amount for contributions to this year's "Stepping Up" Fund Drive.
O.P.E.R.A. – the non-profit organization that owns and operates the opera house – is seeking to raise $130,000 to help restore the historic landmark and return it to full community use.
Previously, contributions from new donors and increased amounts from existing donors would be matched dollar-for-dollar by anonymous supporters.
Now through the end of the year, all contributions to the non-profit group will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to a total of $40,000.
The fund drive has reached nearly $50,000.
Renovation of the Annex and former Coleman store spaces on Main Street is nearing completion. The project is expected to be completed within the next month at a cost of more than $450,000.
O.P.E.R.A. currently is seeking tenants to lease the new storefronts. Contact Justin at 701-535-0347 for leasing details on the commercial spaces or a tour of the storefronts.
All donors will be recognized by having their names – or the name of someone they wish to honor or memorialize – listed on a permanent plaque mounted in the opera house Kenneth C. Schmierer Gallery.
To contribute, mail your donation to O.P.E.R.A. at P.O. Box 334, Ellendale, ND 58436, or donate online at: www.ellendaleoperahouse.com/donate.
O.P.E.R.A. – Organization of People in Ellendale for Restoration of the Arts – was formed in 1992 to save the Main Street landmark from the wrecking ball. Because O.P.E.R.A. is a charitable non-profit organization, all donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
