Bakken Oil Field exhibit, Rockin' the Bakken, Man Camp Dialogues coming to Opera House Gallery in April

"Fractured: North Dakota's Oil Boom" an exhibit developed by Chicago's Field Museum will be on display at the Opera House Galley April 3-30.

For decades, North Dakota was seen as a fly-over state. But when one of the nation’s largest oil reserves was rediscovered and fracking — a means of extracting oil from shale — came to the Bakken shale formation in western North Dakota, attitudes changed.

One can’t turn on the television or open the morning paper without hearing or seeing a news about the state’s booming oil industry.

In the Fractured exhibit, viewers can follow Chicago-based photographer Terry Evans and journalist Elizabeth Farnsworth’s explorations of the Bakken oil region through photographs, interviews, poetry and accumulated wisdom.
